Medi Whale Inc. announced on the last 18th that it signed an MOU with Sankara Nethralaya Chennai Eye Hospital. Under this agreement, they will proceed with a prospective study about eye disease classification and cardiovascular risk factor prediction through three institutions in India. Sankara Nethralaya Chennai Eye Hospital is a large hospital with over 90 ophthalmologies, which is popular for participating in a clinical trial of Google. With SN Chennai, Google worked on a study of diabetic retinopathy detection using AI, which was published in the ophthalmology journal JAMA in 2016.
This clinical trial of Medi Whale not only includes the detection of diabetic retinopathy but also detection of referable eye diseases -glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration- and other cardiovascular disease risk factors. This clinical trial was proposed by Dr. Rajiv Raman at the end of last year, who had participated in the Google research. Through the trial, Medi Whale is planning to verify its AI validity in a foreign medical environment, and dominate the Southeast Asia Market in advance.
